Chamois

Shot this chamois a couple of days ago. Was chasing stags but didn’t see any shooters.

Sure made for an easier packout which was a 15 mile walk.

Camped in this valley for 4 nights.

yes a bit rugged this time of yr,five minute change from sunny to blizzard
strange how different areas produce skins with a ginger tinge like canterbury say to jet black on the west side of the island

Yes, indeed. I just measured the chamois and it’s 11.25 inches high with 4.125 inch bases. So 30.75 Douglas score, and the NZ record is 31.125 I believe (ignoring a bigger one that was hunted from a chopper!).

Yip, just over 11. Good bases and hooks too. No damage or rot either. Don’t think I’ll be shooting a better one anytime soon.

I booked my ferry the minute the announcement was made we could travel south

I would say mid 2022 should see things open up, assuming you're vaccinated and arriving from a "low or medium' COVID risk country.
