With California under attack from fire, all national forests in the state closing today at noon leaving very little public land open, and hardly any water available, I really feel for all my deer hunting brothers and sisters this year. The cards are definitely stacked against us this year. I am fortunate enough to have permission to hunt a plot of land, but this has never been a gimmie hunt by any means. Been plenty of years on this property I have not harvested a buck, so I am so grateful when I am able to (even times we have dragged a buck out for miles getting back to the truck at midnight or later. But I am always proud to know when I have harvested a buck, it still has been On My Own. A few years ago, I got my girlfriend to start hunting with me and she absolutely loves it. She has harvested pheasant, turkey, duck, and now has a few bucks under her belt. Very proud of her if I do say so myself.
