Thought I'd put up some pics from yesterday's trip. I have more pics of the river and things missing but they are still on the camera till tonight. The mosquuitos could have carried us away in the willows, it was scarey!

Pictures look fine. What are you scouting for?

Mainly elk and to check the river bottoms since it's where I usually hunt. I may have to hunt the hills early since the mosquitoes are very very bad. We've been seeing more mule deer up there and if I happen across one while chasing elk he'll have my tag on his antlers as well.

Pictures look great. Curious to see the UL Bend area. Did water make it up to the boat ramp?

Based on the fact that i've recently heard the willows are all underwater, i would say its going to be a big bull SLAUGHTER in the breaks this year:):) If you are archery hunting and put in half an effort, you will get the mullet award this year for not killing one:):)LOL easy to say since i for the first time in my life did not draw. Didn't think it was possible, but i pulled it off, no tag for the first time in 11 or 12 years.....

Ill just have to take my frustration out on a colorado elk instead..:)

It sucks you didn't get a tag :( . I did hear of at least 5 other people that didn't draw as well. The willows by UL Bend are all gone. The tops of the 20 ft trees we used to hunt by down there are all that's left sticking up and a good 4-500 yards of the mouth of Soda creek are now under water. As you go further up the river more of the islands and willows are still intact and above water. Places that last year would have taken 5 to 6 ft to get from the river (boat) to the island now only need 6 inches or less. Many of the islands up at that point have standing water in parts of the islands, but not all of the island. If we get pretty good fall rains much of those islands will go under since the lake is filling its flood pool, but right now it's only filled about 9% of it. Hopefully you'll draw next year! I'll try to get some pics of the islands posted later tonight after work.

Great pics, thanks for sharing. IMO, the Breaks are about the coolest country I've been too. Jealous here...

here's the crooked creek ramp about 4 weeks ago. The water is a good bit higher now. It was 11 feet deep at the bottom of the ramp that day.

Fantastic country down there. I actually just had my first camp there last weekend, and the mosquitos are as bad as everyone says Had the thermacell going around the kids all weekend and went thru 2 cans of deep woods off.

Twodot is the second picture up in the hills across from Crooked creek (the wilderness area)? I got the pics off my camera but spent to much time looking for last years pics to show a comparison. I do plan on getting some of those pics up over the weekend.

Cadman, how did the thermacell work? I thought one of those might come in handy while hunting the bottoms.

That second picture is from Crocked Creek road, looking basicly north. You can see the campground in the lower left below the water's edge. I will take the same excact picture tomorrow and we will see how much the water has come up since then. The date on that photo was June 27th.

The thermacell worked fantastic!! I was sold on them after fishing the milk river in the evening last summer and not having to spray yourself down with off.

Thanks for the update on my thread. I was hunting whiteys in the willows several years ago up closer to the Fred Rob and I may have seen more elk in there than deer, actually watched a big bull swim the river. Hope I don't have to try and find one in there this year, that stuff was thick, but if that's where I'll have to go I guess that's where I'll be. I'll have to wait and see what the river is doing up by the bridge come rifle season.
