Brake recommendation

How much difference in the recoil reduction?

For typical suppressors (ones without brake's on the end) you're looking at 10-30%.

Dedicated brake's vary from 20-50%.

If you really want to geek out about it you can dig into the work published by Precision Rifle Blog. Thunderbeast also has some numbers.

I still shoot brake's for competition, but I may change that in the future. I can't imagine using a brake in a hunting/field scenario unless it was a situation where I was planning to setup and shoot beyond 1000 yds with big 300's or 338's, and I don't do that.

Everything I choose to hunt with is very mild with a typical suppressor.

Also, some brakes add ability to stay on target beyond just their recoil reduction numbers, by divirting gas up at the muzzle to counteract muzzle rise. Suppressors (save one I'm aware of) don't do that.

Stock geometry can eliminate this issue.

I really need to just get a few cans. Ugh 🤔
Less muzzle jump on my 338, and it's substantially quieter. I can comfortably shoot without ear protection when hunting. I cut 2 inches off my barrel, threaded it, and added the surpressor. I had to drop down 1.2 grains in powder to get back to my same velocity I was shooting at.

Original question;
I'm getting a howa 1500 in 300prc with a threaded barrel. I'd like to put a brake on it and I'm looking for recommendations. I don't think I want a radial brake for possible prone shots on a hunting gun. It also has a standard sporter barrel and I would like something not overly huge in size compared to the barrel

Depends on what you want. Maximum recoil reduction frequently aligns with higher noise increase at shooter. Specifically, rearward facing ports reduce recoil more but result in more noise at shooter's position. APA bastard series and the SRS ti pro line are a couple that will get you a lot of recoil reduction. The Area419 are another one but i personally dont like the adapter setup they use.

Options that dont have as aggressively rear facing ports are PVA jet blast and the hawkins tank brake.

Well I could stick my head up a bulls ass , but I’d rather just take the butchers word for it .

You left out the "I could get a good look at a t-bone by" part. Until you made that post i never considered that you could not in fact get a good look at a t-bone by inserting your head up a bulls ass. That fact makes that line all the more funny.
