Big tree thread

I read an article in the newspaper several years back talking about the discovery of the nations largest oak tree. The landscape looked super familiar, but the exact location was a big secret that wasn’t made public. I spent spare time over the course of several years looking for that oak tree on long and exhausting hikes. I also spent countless hours on google earth measuring tree canopies (seriously). I finally found a tree on google earth that was in a remote canyon, with extreme terrain, and over a 100’ canopy. I marked it with my GPS and spent a day hiking to it. When I arrived to the mystery tree it was indeed the same from the newspaper article!!! What are the odds? I located the “champion oak” using similar techniques we all use for e scouting our hunts. I thought it was pretty cool, although most my friends aren’t too impressed hahah

This is a really cool thread. Waiting to see a few monster Sitka Spruce pics. I wish I had taken some of the big ones encountered in my travels.
I saw some dandies out of Rowan Bay when I worked out there.
