Did a long road trip shake down. Took the family shopping at Cabela’s in Dundee, MI for the spring clearance event. 288 miles at 12.4 MPG. I hope that improves as it breaks in the rest of the way. Only have 830 on it now so hopefully after a couple thousand we see that improve.
Family enjoyed the trip and it was a unanimous decision to take it to FL next week for spring break.
There are still a few things I would like to do but I want to see how it does over the summer before I get too carried away.
All in all, I would consider this a done, for now, success.

A lot of adventurer on the trip down to FL from MI. I was worried about the transfer case puking that seal again. When we left there was a drip of fluid on the shift motor but it wasn’t leaving a puddle or spreading so we went for it.
By the time we got to Kentucky the skid plate was covered and the crossmember was wet. Was about 6 hours of driving so guess that’s expected. Cleaned it up and drove another 50 miles to check it again. It wasn’t as bad but everything was damp again. Because it takes a special fluid which I didn’t bring we were looking like it wasn’t gonna make it. We got up yesterday and booked a rental car to finish the trip. Didn’t want to burn it up not knowing how much we had lost. I felt confident that it would make it back to MI and I could fix it at home after the cruise.
With spring break all the car places were sold out. Being Saturday the dealerships parts window is closed. But we went and tried to see if the sales guys would help save us. They came thru and with 2 quarts we were back on the road. I stopped and bought a pump and in the parking lot went to fill it back up. As soon as I pulled the fill plug oil ran everywhere. I quickly put the plug back and was absolutely surprised that it was over full. Al Gore said it took 2 quarts and that is what I put in it before I put it back in. In actuality it likely only takes that when dry and my bottom half was still wet when I reassembled it.
So we kept checking for drips at every stop by laying in disgusting parking lots. The amount of urine in rest stop concrete is concerning.
After about 400 miles it stoped 80% of its drip and I figured it finally needed more fluid. Nope, still poured out when I removed the fill plug. I can’t believe how overfull 2 quarts made it.
We are 1000 miles into the trip and it’s down to where it’s supposed to be. The front seal must of gotten damaged when I ran it dry the first time a few weeks ago. But it just seeps enough to make a drip that the wind takes away.
So it was quite the nervous trip and a lot of prayers to God for the burb to make it. All because I cheated putting fluid in vs filling it after it was hung through the fill port.
