Wifey and I headed out to Big Blue on our favorite Charter, the Sundance with Captain R.J. We had originally booked this trip for salmon a few months ago, but they aren't here yet so we went with plan B. Go for rockfish/ling cod and if time permits come back into the bay for stripers and halibut.

The bit was oddly awesome in that lings were coming up 2:1 over rockfish. The water temp had dropped 4 degrees from the day before which put the rockfish off the bite. No complaints from me though, I like a few rockfish, but cleaning 20 of them gets old and leaves a lot of small holes in my fingers.

My wife, no matter where we go or how we fish, ALWAYS ends up with bigger/more fish it's getting to the point of uncanny. We'll see what happens in two weeks when we are fly fishing in SW Montana.

We only landed two fish when we were back in the Bay, one was this striper and the other was a nice sized (26ish") halibut I caught. It was a pretty solid trip for us coming back with four species of fish, plenty of table fare to pair with everything coming out of the garden this summer.

The group with our limit of lings.

Good eats. Your wife put all of you to shame. :)

How big do those lings get down your way?

What were you catching them on?

Most of what we had is average with my wife's trending to the big side. I'm sure there are a few out there that push north of 30lbs but they are few and far between.

We fished with live anchovies.

Very nice! I love the variety of fish one gets in the big water. That said, the last time I went I got seasick. Took an extra dose of dramamine (sp?) which knocked me out for an hour or so.

I'm just a wuss...

I struggle too, it was a bit rough out there too with winds at 20-25. I do dramamine, and a psi band on my wrist between those and keeping my eyes up on the horizon I'm usually pretty good. I'll take ever preventable measure possible as I never want to be that guy chumming the waters wishing the trip was over.

Good to know I'm not the only one. Even if I do get sick, I plan on going again as there are a few species I still want to catch. Plus, my wife likes to go as well!

You guys are not alone....I grew up surrounded by blue water and love being out there as well. But I to get sick. I take all the preventative measures but when you have seas 4ft +I feel it. I don't chum but dizzy as one can get. I'm still feeling the rollers 2hrs after I get off the boat. I'm lucky......I have the luxury of watching the seas so f it's bad I'm out.....
