That is very generous but I’m not a good borrower. You could have it 5 min or 30 years and it be perfectly fine. I leave the driveway with it and it decides it’s time to give up. If it’s gonna break it will absolutely wait till it in my possession, whether I use it or not.

There are two areas. One any weapon and one archery only. Being the first season the bulls will be in both areas. They cross freely in between the two. The past hunters all recommend having access and equipment for both. There is the possibility of a good bull and you don’t want to be stuck on one side if the bull moves into the other side. Especially after the first few are shot at with rifles.

Get a xbow and enjoy your hunt, bloody things are a bit awkward n cumbersome tho.

I hear raven is coming out with the 6.5 creed this spring. That should be good. I am just kidding but like other have said getting a 350 ish fps or 150-175 lb will be fine. I have found that with more speed like a bow that things get toucher and have shot both mechanical and fixed at deer. I like mechanical on my faster crossbow but don't like there performance sometimes in deer. The faster one just allows me to shoot 15 yards further till it really starts dropping and need to know exact range and dial it in. Also check the regs in all states you might hunt. In NY they have a min limb length to stop the technology and 3 inch groups at 100 yards that $2000 crossbows can do and be a more traditional hunting instrument. I think WY was getting into the debate of what is traditional/bow vs the technology.

You have a really good local archery shop in your area and they are very knowledgeable and will set you up. My vote is definitely support the local archery shop vs a big box store.
We currently have one of the 1st generation Ravin crossbows. As much as I wanted to hate them, I am now a big fan. The pros are it works great for every sized individual, and every skill level. The weight is comparable to that of a rifle, and it points and shoots like a rifle so there isn't as much of a learning curve when compared to a traditional bow. It is easy to pack when hiking as well, and can be de-cocked without firing as can many of the newer ones. The overall width of the Ravin is also very narrow when compared to some of the other brands which is nice if you deer hunt with it from a stand or in a blind. I find it a very valuable tool to have in the arsenal weather it is for new shooters or individuals with injuries.
I would highly recommend finding a local shop where you can put your hands on a few models that fit your budget and see what options and configurations you like.

Crazy what people are paying for xbows.
I'm not cheap, but definitely frugal at times. They've been legal in my state for years. Lots of guys at work have Ravins and Tenpoints. I used a cheap Barnett for 7 or 8 years and killed more than most others I work with. String finally needed replaced last year and I was faced with spending 100% of the value of my used Xbox to restring or replace with a newer faster Barnett. I bought one on sale last fall for $300 and killed 2 deer with it. I do enjoy letting the Ravin crowd know that the Barnett just keeps killing.

Yeah, those mega-dollar units don't kill things any deader than the cheaper ones. It's like a vehicle. Sure, air conditioning, satellite radio, leather seats, sunroof and chrome everything might be nice but the car without will still get you where you're going. Find one you won't cry over, try it out, kill something, decide if you want to keep it or sell it or even get a better one. No shame. Good luck.
