Best Camp Coffee Maker?!?!

I put dad in charge of coffee on our antelope trip this year, and he showed up with a seven year old half used jar of Walmart brand instant crystals. That's as bad as it gets.

If we're in a big camp and have time, nothing beats a percolator for me. If I'm in a hurry I like the folgers tea bags, which I got turned on to last year over the tasters choice instant.

I am with Randy11 --- take time to heat up the tent, the stove and perolate some fine, brown, ground before brown goes down!

Long time elk podnuh is a percolator addict. Coffee's ready every morning same time...regularity is a double entendre in our camp.

noharley - with regularity, you make me spit up my coffee reading threads and your responses on here. Appreciate your humor, brilliance and making me a smarter Huntalker sir. (remind me of my father-in-law, mr. wikpedia, died 2 years ago yesterday.)

CC - dont you jist have Buzz boil yer water?

If I'm not backpacking, I bring my Turkish ibrik, and a pound of the gourmet s**t(vague Pulp Fiction reference.). The coffee has to be ground extremely fine, and if you bring it to a boil, slowly over an open fire 3 times, it's about the best shot expresso you can make.

Otherwise I boil water and stir in some Nescafe instant with my finger. Sometimes, I mix it straight into my oatmeal if I'm in a hurry.

dump the water and coffee together and heat it up just short of boiling, then use the rag to filter as you pour into a cup.

As much as I hate to admit it, this actually works VERY well. I was forced to try it a few times, and was shocked about how well it turned out. Truth it, it's probably better than any other "brewing device" (press, percolator, etc. ...) that I can think of, if you hone your skills. The only catch is that it's kind of an art and takes some practice to get it right.

The only other hard fact I've learned is to brew the night before and store in a thermos for immediate wake up consumption. Stays remarkably fresh without the early a.m. hassle (in the darkness) that we all know & love. :p

I mix a scoop of whey protein into my plain oats, makes it a complete meal and more filling. All my buddies cringe as well.

Be careful... the Deer are catching on...

Thanks for all the advice guys.

After some careful evaluation... A few days ago my new Bialetti 3Cup Moka Pot showed up, along with a new Countertop Conical Burr grinder.

Seems like that was the top recommendation for espresso type coffee.

Initial results. I've used Moka pots before, Brother has one... No regrets... Some of the Best Coffee I've had the pleasure of drinking. And simple enough to use anywhere I hunt.

..thanks for the update...I'm going the 9 or 12 cup Bialetti Moka Pot route.

I found a plastic version of our glass french press, which stays in my camp kit.Easy to use, easy to clean, and best of all GOOD coffee.Come on, I have had cowboy coffee,...might as well strain some swamp water through a dirty sock.No reason to drink low budget swag coffee in this day and age.IMO hehe

I took my wife on her first deer hunt and she made me go to Starbucks and fill our big coffee dispenser. It arrested warm until after the first morning. After that I poured in a pan and heated it on the stove. I would rather had instant mix.

This stuff is far better tasting than Starbucks Via. And not absurdly expensive like Starbucks.

Available at most grocery stores.
