Barnes 270/6.8 110 TSX

First try at 100yd with 6.5 Staball and these .270 110s, three different charges. Loaded to Barnes spec COL 3.24” I used once-fired RP 30-06 so trim length was slightly below .270 Win trim.

My lower load starter and medium charge groups were total fubar. Barrel was cooled between groups and bore snake run once. I ran out of time and had not yet fired highest charge! Barrel was hot to the touch and I sent ‘em anyway because what the hell, going to be another poor group. Well my, my, my, 5 shot 1.2”. I’ll be loading up max again. No chrony report yet.

Wow, today is like first kiss butterflies! Shot my best 100yd group ever and even better, I rolled my own to get there. I grouped <1” with both Staball and Ramshot Hunter. The Staball load was reported last time as best group with a hot barrel 1.2”. This time was the first group (58 grain) after one fouling shot. And .391”, what?! That’s where the train stops because at 60, opened up to 1.49”.

Next closest was Ramshot Hunter 63 grains. Out of five there was a shot so abnormal I’ll take credit for that. But the other four were .90” apart. This was the last group and fired through a too hot barrel. So that’ll be the first group with these final two. I think Ramshot has the win for speed, but under .4” with Staball is a high bar of excellence that I’d take over screaming velocity.

I looked up some of my loads; for 95 grain TTSX in .277, was at 27.8-28.0 grains of Reloder RL7 when I started showing signs of pressure in my LWRC M6A2.
