BACKPACK HELP! Stone Glacier or kifaru

I love my Kifaru pack. Hauled elk and deer out with the Nomad last year and it worked great. Just got a Tahr for longer backcountry hunts. Company has great customer service, too. But—like others have said, SG makes great gear. The initial $ investment may be a little steep as compared to other packs, but I don’t think you can go wrong with either company. Likely will come down to fit/personal preference. Good luck.

How did this hold up hauling quarters? I have thought of the same set up for elk but am hesitant.

I actually never had to use it to pack. My antelope was only about 400 yards from a BLM road so the three of us just field dressed it and drug it to the road. Same with the elk...it was with a guide so we just got the truck to it and loaded it with a hoist :). I put a 80# sack of quik-crete in the load shelf when I was walking just to see how it would handle it. There is more than enough support for the weight, as long as you positioned it correctly in the shelf and had it secured. I'm very happy with it. Hope to be using it to pack both a muledeer and a cow elk in Wyoming this year. I'm thinking about getting a larger SG pack to replace my KUIU ultra 6000.

From all the research i have done i have narrowed it down to two packs. STONE GLACIER OR KIFARU? Which one should i invest in?

Take a look at the new Seek Outside Hunting Brooks and Broadwing Packs as well. I was set on the SG Evo until I saw this. I like all the day pack configurations and all the add on / take off accessories depending what style of hunting you are doing so you never are carrying around any extra weight. If these packs are as good as their tents then Im sure Ill be coming home with one. Going to try one on when I go through Grand Junction in a few weeks to be sure.

I have only used one pack - SG 3300 Solo - so can't compare but every time I get back from a hunt I comment on how glad I am that I bought such a good quality pack. It just fits me so well and carries way more weight than my 50 yr old legs can handle. Absolutely love how well it shrinks down for day hunts, expands for my clothes as the day warms up, and hauls meat whenever needed. I use it for solo 7 day backcountry hunts, just barely big enough for that with my food in meat shelf, which is a good thing as it forces me not to bring extra things that just weigh more. If I got the bigger pack I wouldn't pack as efficiently and I would hate the extra weight after mile #2 and be cussing myself after mile #5! I can't imagine using anything else.

I've had a kifaru hunting duplex and still own an exo 3500 and Seek outside revolution with broad wing and perigrine bags.

I kifaru was less comfortable with and without weight than exo and seek outside for me and I didn't like their bags at the time.
