Job Announcement - TRCP Arizona Field Representative
The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (TRCP) is seeking a talented and passionate individual, who is committed to fish and wildlife conservation, to join our Western team as the TRCP Arizona Field Representative. The successful applicant will participate as a member of the “TRCP Center for Western Lands” field team. TRCP’s Center for Western Lands primarily focuses on wildlife conservation policy and land use policy on public lands throughout the Western U.S. Field representatives work with local sportsmen’s groups, community leaders, elected officials, along with state and federal wildlife and land management agencies, to identify public lands most important to hunters and anglers and to enact policy that conserves important wildlife habitat and protects our hunting and fishing heritage
This individual will organize grassroots and grasstops support for fish and wildlife conservation proposals and will provide state-based strategic support for the TRCP’s national public lands policy objectives.
Ideal candidate would reside in Central Arizona in the Flagstaff or Prescott area, be a passionate outdoor and hunting enthusiast, be a great communicator and relationship builder, have good political instincts and experience and would have some understanding of wildlife conservation and land-use policy.
Candidate would also be self-motivated and be a self-starter, able to be productive and work independently from a home office, without a lot of direct supervision.
Duties
• Organize TRCP advocates, sportsmen-based businesses, and hunting and fishing organizations to build a unified sportsmen’s voice for the conservation of our fish and wildlife resources.
• Engage sportsmen to conserve high value hunting and fishing areas on BLM lands in the Safford and Kingman BLM districts during the Resource Management Plan revision process.
• Work with sportsmen across the state to identify those areas that are most important for hunters and anglers on public land.
• Build and utilize strong relationships with local and state elected representatives, including county commissioners, mayors, governors, and other influentials within the state as well as federal decision makers, to deliver real-world conservation victories.
• Create and distribute state-specific education materials that highlight the social, economic, and biological benefits of public lands within the assigned state.
• Work with the TRCP’s communications staff to generate on-going press coverage through media cultivation, story pitches, opposite editorials, letters-to-the-editor, editorials, and other activities within mainstream media, sportsmen-specific publications, and online communications.
• Participate in the solicitation and cultivation of selected major contributors and work with the Center Director and Director of Development to ensure financial support for the Center and its activities.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field is preferred.
• Experience working on public lands conservation and policy issues is preferred. Other conservation, public policy, or political experience could also be considered.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking experience.
• Great writing skills and experience writing for a variety of audiences.
• Ability to work with state and federal decision makers, including high level agency personnel, congressional representatives and staff, .
• Ability to work with the mainstream media, sportsmen-specific publications and online communication channels.
• Strong understanding of federal land-use planning processes and public education campaigns.
• Willingness to travel within the state of Arizona and to Washington, DC.
• Complete fluency in Microsoft Office suite of applications and use of the Internet.
• GIS experience would be helpful.
Compensation
Salary: $41,000 to $46,000, depending on experience. This is a full time position with competitive health and retirement benefits.
