My -12 this morning seems balmy compared to a few others. Dogs didn’t seem to happy to go out and were quickly back in curled on beds

Little bit colder up my way...I was hoping it would hit -40.
Therefore we kept the floor fan going per habit.

Looks like Butte hit -40.

I can't imagine the critters out there living through this. I mean deer and elk are tough but this is beyond my comprehension. And what about the song birds...

Looks like Butte hit -40.

It was a night like that, that I drove the young couple to Butte when she went into labor, in the middle of the night. Had to follow a snowblower through Elk Park as it sent snow over the poles. We made in time. It was tight in that 63 Dodge.

Its -10 here now with 4 inches on the ground, but it doesn't feel all that cold. But that might be the 7 years living in Minnesota talking. Before that, I would have said -10 was really cold

Memories: 1975 MT and -35 for weeks with windchill of -75. Log cabin to live in free and all the water you want in the frozen creek. Nice 2 seater outhouse.
Job shut down due to cold conditions and I headed to my older sisters wedding .
It was a frozen snow mess all the way to Portland and down the coast as far as Sonoma. SLO was a good stop for a day to surf.
It was 75 in Pasadena and I moved to SLO after the wedding.

Been back to MT twice after and it was the memory of that cold that led me to SW NM.

21 this morning at my place and breezy now.

Did you get your heater fixed from a few weeks ago? Staying warm?

It's still working, back up. Combustion blower making noise and I tapped it and put new filters in. LOL
Time for research.

I thought the same thing @neffa3 ! When I read the forecast, the first thing I thought about is wildlife. As a believer in “private land-public wildlife” I’ve never wanted all the wildlife in Montana to find refuge in a barn somewhere on private land before..

With a 3 mph wind it’s dropped the temp 13 more degrees.


Edit: my dog won’t go outside and do his business. He went out and peed for a second and ran back in, laid down, and licked and gnawed at his feet. Total maybe 55 seconds.. I feel terrible for him and all animals right now. Everywhere in town is out of boots for dogs
