I don't hunt birds with a pack (usually), but I often do for deer and around here, that means snapping the rifle up for a quick shot fairly often. In my opinion, it all comes down to where your pack strap sits. I crank down the chest strap on my pack, so that the shoulder strap isn't sitting right where the recoil pad lands. I generally raise the gun a few times as I'm walking, to make sure the strap isn't in the way.
