If the bore's pitted, you could send it and $250 to JES reboring and have it come back as a 35 Whelen or 9.3X62. Having a matched pair wouldn't suck!1 Pointer. Quit giving me ideas. That HB rifle looks cool.

If the slide wobble bothers you, there's plenty of videos/instructions on the web about how to fix it. IIRC, it mostly involves installing a few rubber O-rings.
If the stock is shot, synthetic replacements are out there for less than $100. One of the cooler stocks I've seen was someone fitted a straight grip shotgun stock to one. I think they use the same butt stocks as 870s. I'd bet that'd make for a fast shouldering rifle! Might work well for close in elk while slipping through the oak brush...
