I'm taking a couple of teenagers on their first ever hunt in November. They each obtained a leftover whitetail doe tag for the Burlington area. I've never targeted whitetails and don't know much about their behavior. My current plan is to sit near the edges of hay fields in walk-in areas in the mornings and evenings. Is this a good plan? They don't have a ton of shooting experience, so I feel like still hunting is not the way to go.

I got a buck there a couple years ago. Saw a few does. Definitely a lot more mule deer than whitetails around there though.

I'll send you a PM.

Yes that is a good strategy, find an ambush position between bedding and feeding. Also keep in mind, whitetails will "stage" or group up in the cover closest to the feeding location and pour into a field just before dark. this is also a good place to find a relaxed Doe ripe for the taking.

In the East whitetail movements can be very predictable. In the "thumb" of Michigan we have deer runways that are 2' wide and 6" deep with tracks. find something similar and it can be like a shooting gallery. Good luck and post up some pictures of the successful hunters. P.s' With my limited understanding of Mule Deer. I think Whitetails tend to be a little more jumpy.

We had success. General season was still going on and was good for any deer. So the boys ended up harvesting mule deer in the first day. We did run into some whitetail does and probably could have filled the tags if we had to specifically focus on whitetails the whole weekend.

His first ever and very own deer tenderloin. These deer had been living in a corn field and feeding on alfalfa.
