Yeti GOBOX Collection

Any hockey fans out there?

So a 40 yo man from Russia breaks his leg. Five weeks later he is back in the lineup, scoring goals at a pace above his career average. No red flags there.... ;)

Need to take a walk tonight to process this…

(Avs also get a 2nd and 4th, CHI gets a 3rd back from CAR and retains half of Mikko’s salary for 25)

Yeah, gotta feel like a kick in the nuts losing Mikko! We’re glad to have him though. You’re getting a couple of solid young players in return. Necas is super quick with some elusive moves. He’s fun to watch.

Like a steel toe boot to the junk.

I understand the rationale and certainly wasn’t in the room for the negotiations. If he wanted Draisatls deal (same agent, and Mikko plays the same role) that’s his prerogative to ask for.

But the Avs are in a Cup window NOW. You don’t trade a top 10 player in the world who consistently scores 100pts/season if you’re trying to win the cup.

You gamble (like Carolina is) that you can win with this guy and can resign him on the offseason and if not, well you lost the gamble and you take his 9M aav to the Free Agent market next summer.

All the pundits are saying the avalanche aren’t done yet (and the normal crazies are suggesting this is the move to make room for Crosby to come to CO and play with his neighbor Nate :) )

Watching Necas today in his first game - he’s impressive around the puck, and ultra-fast. I like the guy, But still - last 3 seasons point totals:

Necas : 40, 71, 53
Rantanen : 92, 105, 104

And the one that baffles me the most, what the heck is Chicago doing as part of this??

I did laugh that all they got was their own 3rd round pick back :)

but business-wise, they get rid of Hall ($6M AAV) , and even paying half of Mikko’s remaining salary this year ($4.6M) gets them their pick back for nothing

Yeah, Blackhawks essentially got cap space and a brokerage fee (some draft picks) for unloading a somewhat expensive player that can’t seem to stay healthy. I’m not expecting much from Hall, but won’t complain if he hits a hot streak.

Almost zero chance we’ll extend Mikko. We had the same situation last year bringing on Guentzel as UFA just before the deadline. He slotted in seemlessly and was a scoring machine for us. But ultimately we couldn’t afford to keep him. Same will happen with Mikko. Speculation is that he’ll be one of the top 3 highest paid guys in the league next year. We don’t roster those kinds of players.

It’s likely all for not for us anyhow. We roster really good regular season teams, but lack the toughness required for deep playoff runs. Once the refs put the whistles away and guys like Tkachuk and Wilson can cross check and interfere at will, our speed game quickly loses its advantage.

Necas has really come into his own this year and found another gear. He was the league points leader for a pretty good stretch early in the season. Has cooled off a bit lately, but still averaging over a point a game. He’s got 55 this season compared to Rantanen’ 64. Not the same level, but no slouch either. And a bargin at $6.5M with another year left on his contract.

I really liked his debut. Passed too much and was slightly out of synch with 29 a couple times, but that’s to be expected first game with a new team, especially with a dude like Nate. Worked hard, strong on the puck, great hands and just a burner. I’m excited to have him.

Mikko is a proven playoff superstar, drafted and developed here, can play physical when he has to. I think his most impressive season was 22-23 when he was centering a top line of AHL guys half the year with all the injuries and still put up 100 and more or less dragged the Avs into playoffs on his own. That was something to watch.

I concur with you here, I think he’s a Ranger or a King in 25/26. Maybe his buddy Aho can turn him, though :)

They must have heard me. We just took our first fighting major of the season 🤦‍♂️.

Here we go! Big day. Gonna be fun. USA! USA! USA!
This is going to be fun to watch. So great to have best-on-best hockey back, even in limited form.

US team needs Regular season Hellebuyck, not the playoff version :)

Will be fun to watch Canada’s PP1 tonight. That has to be the most frightening power play since Gretzky and Lemieux.

Bummer to see Hughes out for the US. Would have been nice having him on the D line. Excited for the tourney though. I think we have the best goaltending stack for sure, but overall, Finland has a damn scary roster from top to bottom.

I'll disagree there. Finland is such a huge underdog in this I don't give em any chance of making the final. USA should be there and then honestly its about a coin flip on whether it will be Canada or Sweden. That game between them will likely determine who goes and who doesn't. O and that's the game tonight :) Gonna be fun.

Should be good games. Finland always shows up in international games, hence the reining Olympic gold medalists. They always play tough, and i would be surprised to see them at the bottom of the bracket at the end

Generally with you on FIN stepping up in internationals, but man is their D-Corps in rough shape with the injuries for this tournament. Their bottom 5 D are like 3rd pair guys in the NHL (or 2nd pair guys on mediocre teams, sorry Utah fans).

That's a tough hill to climb when the USA/CAN 7th D-men are Norris candidates.

Can't wait though.

Canada Sweden tonight, right?

Excited to watch a few of the wild boys playing in the tourney. Nice change of pace because the all star weekend was a joke last time I watched. I had to watch Oveckins kid skate around more than anything else, and I hate him as a player 🤮. The dad not the kid gets the hate to be clear
