This is a follow up to a post I did last week about a new stock. This will top that 270 build so long range capability isn’t really relevant. I’ve had good experiences with the Leupold VX5 and Swaro Z5. Once the CDS turret is cut that is a very simple system, a little cleaner than the factory Swaro turret but I think the glass is a little better on the Swaro.

How do hunttalkers fall on it?

The new Swaro Z5+ looks really interesting to me. The BT version has a much cleaner turret for dialing and the 2-10x42 is 15.9oz. I currently have more scopes than rifles in the safe, but I still want to put one on something.

Looks like the voting is 50/50 at this point! I'd go with the VX5. I've been loyal to the Leupold scopes for a few decades now, so I'm a bit biased, but they've worked well for me. I used the CDS this past season, and found it to be accurate in the field as well as the range. Like you said, it's very simple to use.

It does look like a nice upgrade. I don’t need the extra adjustment for this particular rifle but I’d love to try one of those down the road. The regular z5 is also several $$ less right now as they’ve stopped producing most of the line.

VX-5HD! I have had Zeiss, Swarovski, Leica, Nikon and others, and they have all been great, but I like my VX-5HD's with Firedot!

Recently had the same question myself. After looking through both the swarovski won. Haven't even mounted it yet so can't comment on it further.

Never looked through anything Leica, I’ll see if I can track one down locally to handle.
Kinda hard to find. Even harder was finding that "simple" windplex reticle, Sportsmans and Bob's both had the "christmas tree" type reticle but not my style for a hunting scope. They do weigh about 5 oz more than VX5 IIRC. Other difference is the cross hairs are seem to be a tad thinner than Leupold VX5. The FOV is so wide at 3x I can see end of 22" barrel in the scope, stunning to me.

In my limited experience, the Swaro glass toasts Leupold and the BT system allows you more flexibility than an engraved CDS from Leupold. The BT system is easily user-calibratable for different loads that you might want to experiment with, whereas you are married to a particular load (and altitude) with the CDS. I have Swaros on two rifles and have been a big fan.

That being said... another forum member has lately turned me on to Trijicons. Clarity is on par with Swaro, most models give you a true dialing system and are at a touch lower price point than the VX5 or Z5. I have a TenMile ready to go on a build in progress and will be snagging a Credo HX sometime this spring.
