An counterpoint article I wrote conserning trophy hunting and hunting in general, in response to the mostly uneducated internet outcry for Cecil the Lion.

As you can see from the comments section, it was suggested I "go to a psychologist" to get myself checked out if I actually thought hunters were conservationists.

Than I made the mistake of actually responding to the comments, bringing up the money earned from the Pittman Robertson Act and the Federal Bird Stamp, etc.

Its not the most perfectly written piece. I only had 700 words to work with.

I believe I "borrowed" a point from Big Finn on how hunters are actually participants in the natural world, while hikers/campers/photographers, etc are only observers. that was not well received as you can imagine.

Kudos to you. Living in Northfield and writing a counterpoint in the MPLS paper is comparable to trying to convert Muslims to Christianity in Mecca. (I lived in Faribault for 20 years so I know your environment. Caught many a walleye by the Malt o Meal dam!) I could not write anything like that and deal with those intellectual snobs!

Thanks for the link.

Good read. Never respond to comments haha. Only the craziest of the crazy even bother to comment and logic is a foreign language to them.

Brave article, too bad someone on the lunatic fringe was allowed to use you article to hop up on his soapbox and shout everyone else down. Might be nice if the Strib limited commenters to fewer words than the original article. Thanks for the read.

Z Barebow- Not everyone up here in the big city is an intellectual snob, but thanks for the generalization.

Nice article. I keep hearing over and over from non-hunters, "I'm o.k. with hunting for meat but I don't like trophy hunting or sport hunting." I'm not sure why there is that thought process that animals with large racks are not eaten but just shot for their antlers. You cant really argue with people that have no desire to learn anything beyond what their college professor told them their first semester.
