All straight hard liquor is horrible

Does Jamesons Irish constitute hard alcohol or is that in the "Southern Comfort" category?
 
I don’t crave it unless I’m having a very good steak, but most bourbons or scotch are great straight or on the rocks for me. I don’t care for much of the Canadian or American whiskey though. I always miss that burn. I prefer not to mix anything with them but ice, though there were a few bottles of Scotch I’ve had that improved with a splash of water.
