Alaska Vacation

We plan on doing 1 or two guided float trips on the Kenai River, then I'll most likely fish for Silvers / Trout for the rest of the trip. Never caught a Silver before but it looks like fun. I purchased the 2020 Milepost on Amazon, but people are charging $80.00 plus for the 6th edition of the Highway Angler..

If you haven’t selected a guide for the Kenai, Jeff King, of Kings Budget Charters has always been the favorite in my circle of friends. You can probably park your camper right on the river behind his house. Jeff and his wife are originally from Montana.

Silvers are generally agreeable to a well presented fly or spinner. It’s a Pink Salmon year, you will find them entertaining as well.

I know nothing about AK but if are near the peninsula then can beachcomb for the green glass balls that break loose from fishing nets then float in the Japanese Current sometimes making landfall. Most of these glass floats were handblown in 1930s to 1960s from melted Saki bottles. I knew a retired school teacher in Oregon that had some AK honey holes where the bay entrance was narrow then the bay opened up so the glass balls tended to stay in the bay. She would hike at times and find so many that her and her husband would have to pick out favorites and leave the bulk there on the beach.

Those and dead walruses. Once one of our pilots spotted a dead walrus on the beach flying back to the lodge after dropping us off at no tellum creek. When he returned to pick us up he brought several garbage bags. Landed on the beach liberated the head and ivory, shoved the bag in the back of the beaver. All was good until the flight home got a little rough and one of the tusks punctured the bag. Had four puking 🤮 when we landed 15 minutes later.

Plus one on the silvers BUT rainbows, char, Grayling and dollies are in the midst of a feeding frenzy at that time. Epic fishing at that time of year.
The feeding frenzy is just about ready to kick off. Caught these yesterday, keep thinking about rainbows.
