I was looking at my totals for my mileage plans. 39,000 for Delta and 9,000 for Alaska Air.
I will rack up another 20,000 or so on delta in the next couple months but, I'd like to use both on one site for reward trips to Alaska.
How easy is it to move them from one to the other? Can I get two reward tickets on the same plane? How many points does an upgrade cost?

As you may have heard, I am taking a friend to Alaska in August for a hike and I am trying to do it as cheaply as possible and I am going to document all expences to give folks a 'real' indication of costs.
I think Alaska can be had for less $$ than most think-and I am set on proving it!!

I know the conversion from Alaska miles to Delta isn't equal. It is almost double in some cases. I mean if alaska air will burn 25,000 miles for you to redeem a flight then trying to use your Alaksa miles on a Deltal flight is about 50,000 of Alaska miles for the same destination.
I've found that sometimes your best option if two are going and you don't have enough miles is to use the $99 companion fare ticket that you get once a year. You can't use points with this ticket but you are basically paying half the amount. You buy a regular price ticket and the companion flys for $99. So if you get a round trip ticket for $800 and add the $99 and split that you both fly round trip for $450. That's a great deal.

My trip last year cost me 40,000 Alaska miles for a round trip ticket.

I doubt you will be able to combine them between airlines You can book more than one ticket on a flight using miles. The upgrades and tickets will depend on the flight. Last time I used miles to alaska I believe it was like 35,000 or 45,000 per ticket I don't remember the upgrade point value as I only got that on the way home.

I checked online and I can still get tickets for 25,000 each today. I'll need to go to china and back before I can get 2 tickets-dang!! I don't need to upgrade but hey-if it's basically free....I will also look into the comp fare deal too, that could work. Thanks folks for the input.

OK,
Thanks for the help, here's what I ended up doing...
I had 39,000 miles and needed 50,000 for 2 award tickets on Delta.
I paid $301 For 8,000 miles and Delta added 75% (6,000) more miles for free (promotion) giving me a total of 53,000 miles I purchased the tickets and was charged an additional $5 each for a total of $311 for 2 round trip tickets from SLC to ANC!!!

Now I need to find a cheap rental car for 10 days.....

My experience is that rental cars in anchorage are some of the most expensive I've seen. I have no suggestion on that but I thoughts saw delta had a promotion for like 30 or 40% off rental cars with hertz.

I've got 250,000 or so on United. We were supposed to go to Brazil for a month this summer, but it looks like that will be off. I might have to consider an Alaska salmon run...

Michael,

That old van got us all the way to Leif and back. Wasn't our first choice but sure was cheap!!
If taking the GF, remember the neon gecko!
