After effects of Elk Fire

I’m not sure if they’ll reduce tags or not , but it may be harder draw since those who had tags, and weren’t able to hunt, have their choice of a refund or tag reservation for 2025.

Wouldn't think the tag number would be reduced. If the elk make it through winter healthy, the habitat will be very robust and the herd will flourish. A lot of that acreage in the fire was grassland which returns rather quickly. But boy, does it burn fast!

Yeah i was wondering about that. I'm looking at the type 9 hunt so I wouldn't expect any tags to be saver for that. I think the type 1 and 4 tags are the only ones that could get reserved

My son and I were in unit 39 type 1. ( he had the tag) and due to access restrictions tag holders in39 were also given the option of tag for 2025 or refund as long as you didn’t hunt. Point being is that at least two units were affected ( maybe more)

Makes sense due to limited access up there. I wouldnt think there would be any options available for any type 9 tags to be granted due to timing of fire and access closures
