Some high falutin' fella sent me a Ruger No.1 for surgery. I haven't gotten as many pictures as the last build, but the process is pretty much the same.

It all starts with making a mortgage payment to my stock carver, who picked out a beautiful piece of Bastogne Walnut and rough carved a blank.

After some Hollywood magic, the wood is fit to frame, final shaped, and rough sanded. The grip cap, sling mount, and recoil pad are fit. A light coat of oil is applied to help highlight areas that need more sanding.

After a bunch more finish sanding, the grain is mostly filled. Everything has been sanded up to 1000 grit. The forend is ready for its mounting hardware.
