9/11 Commission Finds Ties Between al-Qaeda and Iran

Another thing that continues to nag at me is that history has shown us that when our attention is diverted to on particular region of the world something other hot spot is being ignored. Then a few year later that boils over and we have to get up to speed.

We were fighting a proxy war with the USSR in Afganistan but Saddam was putting the final touches on his invasion of Iran.

We were embroiled in the south American Jungles and arresting the Panamanian dictator but Saddam was planning to invade Kuwait.

We fought the Gulf War but tensions were heating up in the Former Yugoslavia.

We had our attention focused on the middle East Peace process and the Rwandan genocide occurred.

We and NATO attacked the Serbians and moved into to restore order but Al Qaeda was planning a devasting attack against us.

I wonder what hotspot is being ignored now: The former Soviet Republics, North Korea, China, Sudan, South America?

Wouldn't it be best to finish the current fights and keep some reserves of military strength for contingency purposes?
