Interesting setting. You can have bear bait though required to hunt at least 100 yards from the bait(?). Grats to the hunter.

What does sugar do for the flavor of bear?
Montana, where bear bating is not permitted, spring bear (grass) is better tasting than fall bear (berries). IMO.
