Nampa Couple Searching for Missing Dog After Neigh ors Light Fireworks
BOISE - NAMPA - Fireworks are fun for the family, but pet owners should be aware they can have the opposite effect on animals. Roger and Patty Kelley of Nampa are desperately searching for their Siberian husky, Missy, who ran away Thursday night after neighbors set off firecrackers.
"After we got home we found a couple bottle rockets sitting in the yard," said Roger Kelley.
Patty Kelley took the day off work to post signs around the city.
"She has a problem with fireworks and how loud the noises are," she said.
The Kelleys say their neighbors saw Missy slide under a fence where traces of her hair are stuck to the wires.
Animal controllers say this upcoming weekend is expected to be their busiest, because dogs tend to get scared and run away.
"We will be full to capacity," said Patricia Baker of the Canyon County Animal Shelter. She says dogs should be kept inside, "Because the noises do scare them a lot. Turn on music, not anything like rock and roll, but soft music."
The Kelleys take Missy with them on vacations, and say they usually make sure to keep her away from fireworks.
Now, they say they'd prefer fireworks be banned before July 4th.
"And only have the one day, because that's what it's supposed to be is just a 4th of July celebration, and people start shooting them off a week or so in advance," said Roger Kelley.
As long as Missy's gone, Patty fears they won't have anything to celebrate this holiday weekend.
"I'm afraid she's run over," she said with tears in her eyes. "I just hope we find her. I want her to come home. I miss her."
The Kelleys say Missy was last seen on Elijah Drive in Nampa at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
If you have any clues, you're asked to call them at 466-2693.
