I agree with Tw. In the long run, it doesn't pencil. But hunting is for the memories as much as the meat.

Now, maybe if you're super careful with your gear spending and gas spending and everything you could swing it like Duck Slayer. Just one more in state trip to the hunting grounds to come back to fill the tag can blow the profitability though. Carpooling can help.

It's nice that many have the disposable income to pursue their passions like hunting.
 
Seems no one has factored in the requirement of having to purchase a non resident Annual Small Game license just to enter the draw. That adds $81.75 to the $496.75 for the cow permit. That totals $578.50 by my math. A large chunk of change!
