410 TSS

9.5s, pattern says 50 yards but I've yet to test it past 35 on gobblers. It's everything the 12ga I started with was except not as forgiving.

.410 is persnickety in building your loads. Test anytime you change lots. I wouldn't fool with it unless you're using a gun lighter than you can get in a bigger gauge. Usually.410s weigh as much or more than 28ga or 20ga in the same line. Life is easier with more pellets than the .410 will throw.

If you're thinking the .410 means more challenge from limited range you will see it doesn't matter after you kill a few with it.

I agree with a lot of this.

I like knowing that the 12 gauge is more forgiving. I’m usually never in a situation where I’m physically hindered by carrying my 12 gauge, so I figure why screw around. Plus, factory ammo is far less expensive.

I shot a couple with the 410 I bought my son last year and it was fun, but it’s not at the front of the gun safe.

What shot size are you guys running for turkey 7# or 9#? What is your effective range?

I've been experimenting with my Model 42 full choke (factory barrel is not threaded for tubes) so my daughter can use it in 2 weeks. The #9 TSS has a pretty good pattern at about 30yds, I don't think I want her shooting any farther than that with the .410.

I think I'd like to get a Rossi 410, just because.
I went into the gun shop to order a Rossi, ended up putting money down on a Savage because the shop already had those ordered and he couldnt find a Rossi to order. He still hasnt gotten the Savage in.

Two years ago it seemed like there was an abundance of Rossi/Stevens single shots. Since then there has been next to nothing in the same gun shop. No idea what that speaks of. Haven't been motivated to order one, but would have bought a .410 on the spot any of the last 10-12 visits to the store.😁
I use a Savage .410/22 on our gophers but it throws an awful pattern.

I have a brand new unfired .410 single shot I'll give to someone who's kid could use it. We would have to arrange something for transfer because I hate the hassle here in Illinois for shipping.

sorry I had to get my bad joke out of the way.

Got lucky and found a black one at the pawn shop.

I'm on the fence about using a full or extra full on my sons 410. The Xtra full stretches the effective kill range 15-20 yards but at 10 yards it's much less forgiving. Don't really want him shooting past 30 yards anyway so think will stick with the full for him.
