Some advice from a midwesterner:

1. The people in the Midwest are either really awesome or terrible. Not much in between

2. Northern Michigan is flipping amazing. Highly recommend it. Great fishing. Great little towns. Overall, two thumbs up.

3. Skiing in northern Michigan is icy, but not as bad as say, New England skiing. Boyne mountain and highlands are where I grew up skiing, New England is where I learned I could ski anywhere
