Can anyone tell me about this cartridge. Not finding much info. There is a lot of knowledge here, please share. Thanks

South Dakota? Asking about that cartridge, I assume you're near Wakanda.

Thanks for the info. You got any dies? JK. I might have been to Wakonda a few times to visit. Not really close

There's an auction there that has a 308 Moses ending tomorrow. Figured you were eyeing it too. They had a set of dies but they sold on Sunday.

I wouldn't know for sure. According to the video, its necked for a 7mm bullet. Now, looking at the not so clear pic, it appears like a 7-08 blown out with a shorter neck. Maybe more powder, a little more velocity. The only reason I asked here was there is very little information on it. One internet thing indicated there were three Moses round, this one, a 7mm one and ? The main reason i was interested in other than a unique caliber is a well built custom with a $1000 used price scope on it. I tried to look up Precision Rifle Works but it doesn't appear they are operating. They may have made the barrel but that is just a guess on my part. After my friend chimed in on the auction location, I lost some interest. It sold for a little over $1000 with fees and taxes. I did buy an unknow cartridge rifle in the 7.65 area. Purchased some Cerra safe and will figure out what I got. I'll pick it up tomorrow. As usual, I bought more stuff than I need but having too much powder that is decently priced is never a bad thing.

The comments make it seem like the "7mm Moses" is a 7/08. So is a 308 moses a 308?

I take their comment to be as accurate as the average "gun guy". They are parroting what they think they were told. I think what they mean is it's whatever the .308 cartridge is necked down to .284. I wouldn't read anything else into what they said.

Whatever the cartridge is, it has most of the taper removed and a very short neck. Nothing revolutionary about that. Maybe a shorter, fatter .284 Win or just a fatter .284 Win. It would help to know what the parent case was.

Silky, Do you know who got the dies? I bought the rifle, lol. Talked to the builder, he is still in business. Ty

I bought the 308 rifle from the auction. It has a bartlein bull barrel on it. I talked to the builder. It is on a long action, thought about slimming down the barrel and fluting it, and maybe rechambering in 300 prc. Am I wrong for thinking this way?

Yeah, you're nuts. I bought the "unmarked caliber" rifle. Pulled the tag off the buttstock and it said HS Precision. Removed the stock and on the bottom of the barrel it was stamped 308 Win. Bartlein. Took it to the range a few days later on a not so nice day and it shot a 5 shot 1.5" group at 200 with some reloads I had for a different rifle. It will do better. Maybe made by the same builder? It seems like someone knew what they were doing when they put these together. I bid on the one you got but stopped short I guess. Damn scope was worth that. I'm still intrigued by what the heck a 308 moses is ? Sounds like a 7-08 rem but i am curious on neck length and how deep it is throated. I would guess it was designed for long bullets. I would be interested to know the builder. I would think he might have those measurements for you. Enjoy.

I went back and looked at the sale items and found the pic of the die that was sold. It was a custom die from Hornady. It has order numbers ? on the box so maybe they can make you one. Good luck.

"Hello,

The 308 Moses is a proprietary improved 308-win case designed by Jeremiah Mani. You may be able to look for Moses Cartridges on Facebook for more information.

Thanks"

My reply from Hornady about any info they would provide. I do not Facebook but there is a small group there about "Moses" cartridges ( I think)

Ask the builder for the reamer specs. If he doesn’t have them, whoever made the reamer does. Will answer most of your questions.

If it is just an improved .308, you can neck a .308 case up with whatever the next size you have, then slowly neck back to .308 until the case fits with a little effort on closing the bolt. Fireform with starting .308 loads.

I can’t see the advantage of a short necked.308 though.

If everything else is good, might be a good project gun for a rechamber, especially if it’s on a long action. Bolt face size will be your limiting factor.
