25-06 RL 23

26 is tough too. I just look at mine from time to time. Might load it sometime. mtmuley

It hasn’t been produced in a while and is no longer in production. It is equivalent to gold if you can find it.
Maybe I should just find a new home for this stuff and go with something I can get.
I'm at the stage of tuning a load that I'm not good at. After reading some of the posts on the ladder thread, I'm getting that if you're not happy with your groups, change powders.

Alliant brand was sold as part of the Vista / Federal sale. All the powders are just what stock is left and released. It is a dead powder line.

Depends on how much you have. 23 is an excellent powder especially in the 06 parent case. A 280ai with 150 grain or higher bullet, 23 is THE powder.

For your 25/06 the heavier the bullet, the better that powder will perform.

I have just the one virgin pound that I opened this afternoon.
One problem is that I've been reloading something for about 50 years. Shotgun to start then pistol and rifle for around 10-15 years. I got pounds of various powders when it was affordable. I've always been fortunate to have had components that were able to get me great to good enough results. I've never had to really develop a load because book loads were my friend. Now I have a couple rifles that aren't being that friendly. The one I'm fussing with now is the 25-06 that will more than likely be my go to all around ranch rifle. My retirement wages aren't as good as my working wages were.

I look at RL23 as a H4831 alternative with more velocity potential. More temp stable than the traditional RL22 or RL25 and also RL26.

I've read reports recently of some of the alliant powders becoming available again soon. Saw a 4/1 date on a recent RL26 thread. No idea on validity. If prices remain sky high I doubt i'll buy any though.

I have a few 25-06 rifles, and IMR 4831 has long proven to be the powder of choice for my rifles with 100 grain bullets.
