So first a PSA…the best Comedic thread category has been discontinued because we were a bunch of miserable SOBs in 2024. There were no cheese threads. There were no questionable paper plate contents thrown on the campfire. No member matched wits with a wiley rodent. We can, no, we must do better in 2025. If anyone doesn’t understand the assignment, here is my favorite HT classic comedy of all time. Be funny, my friends.

Ok, now to the category at hand. We did have some great stories told. Full transparency: I spent significantly less time in the forum this year so it is very likely I missed some excellent threads. If one of your favorites isn’t here, please post it for all to enjoy.

Without further ado, here are some of my favorites from this year.

Good on you for reviving this tradition. I’m looking forward to re-reading through your nominations.

I do think that the original tent-homicide/goat hunt thread has potential as qualifying for beat comedic thread albeit unintentionally. Perhaps, the accidental crossover from serious to comedic actually is funnier than intentional comedy? Perhaps it’s just my twisted sense of humor.

I will make the prediction that if someone draws that goat tag and uses the Hedgehogs’ hunt strategy to kill a big billy that hunt recap would have potential to be legendary.

Great thread! Thank-you!

It's a toss up to me between Grant's sheep and trb's annual alpine deer hunt

I thought this one by @Big Fin himself was worth reading a couple times...

BigFin doesn't get nearly the credit on here he deserves for telling a great story. He's a helluva writer, but he has a bit of an advantage on the photo front.

No more voting. It makes people cry. 🤷🏻‍♀️

You may vote by posting to this thread though if you wish.
Sorry you had to deal with crybabies. I am glad you’ve brought the awards back. One question. How do you remember all these threads at the end of the year? Do you keep a running list of who’s in and who’s out?
Turns out that tent shanking thread was 2023. Time flies.
It won’t be long and it will be eligible for a lifetime achievement award.

So yeah, I usually spend a stupid amount of time on this. This year I kind of decided last minute to do it I guess. But I do try to bookmark the ones I really enjoy through the year. Or sometimes people @ me when they read a good one. But then over a day or two after Christmas I go back and try to look at threads from the last year and try to narrow it down to 10 or so. I’ve always been an avid reader, and I really appreciate the people that can put together a story that others can connect with. I’ve put a couple of unique picture story style threads in here before too. But that is really the only criteria- stories that I personally found particularly engaging as the reader, for whatever that is worth.

This isn’t meant to take anything away from the many other cool hunts posted every year. It’s always fun to see other member’s success and excitement.
