2024 deer season , tag along guided elk hunt

Oct 20 Sunday due too the rain we slept in we went a spot right off the black top but was too foggy and was waiting for lunch we ate out , went to the same piece in the evening did a little hike just to get the feel for it , did see some tracks tho .

Monday Oct 21 I went back to the piece of public right off the black top I waited till it was light to see where I was walking , I walked along the edge of the public to get to the back part this was about 9 am I glasses that area until 1pm but no dice . For the evening hunt I went to the piece of public that was cut off due to the rain making it too muddy I got back about halfway back but couldn't make it anymore didn't really glass anything that night .

Tuesday Oct 22 I went to mesa that was towards the front part of that piece but somebody beat me there cuz I walked up to it . After that I tried to get to the back and did it I glasses 2 does a fawn and a forky on the other side of that mesa I spotted a doe feeding and then she bedded up . For the evening my buddy came up there and glassed a area but only saw a couple of does .

Wednesday Oct 23 my last day for this hunt my buddy and I went to the middle mesa to glass and didn't see anything so we walked to the area where we couldn't glass into and saw couple set of tracks . By this it was close to lunch so we headed back to his house for lunch after that I went to town to fix my low tire and he went to work . I left town to head back out I had to go the long way around due to some of the 2 tracks having water in em I went to cap they call it to glass down into
the area where I had been hunting in . By this time it was 545 pm I was driving along the cap and spotted a deer in front of me I ranged him at 150 and saw he had funky antlers and was a 3 legged deer grabbed my ML and shooting sticks jumped ofy my truck and walked right at him closed the range another 30 or 40 yards laid down prone sighted in and pulled the trigger he reared back a little and fell in a depression into the rocks , later I learnt that I tore his heart apart using 340 gr eld x bullets .

Saturday evening Oct 26 I sat for a big buck that we have on cam but didn't see anything here in ks

I hunted the buck with flames 4times until the weekend of Nov 10th that Sunday my cousin saw him walking thru there yard 5 miles east of where we hunt and he kept going another 10miles and somebody shot the weekend of Dec 15th with a rifle in that area . The only pic I have of it dead it has somebody name on it so won't post anything on it .

Monday Nov 11 I sat in the morning and saw a big and tall 8 pt dogging a doe perty good the closest they got was 170 yds , I'm guessing 160 class a very solid deer

Wednesday Nov 13 the wind was bad for the same spot so I waited till about 9 am and walked into there rattled in 2 spikes about right away ,in the eve I saw some does , also I sat till dark

Monday morning Nov 18 I sat in the morning about 8 am I had a shooter come across the wheatfiled south of me and he came into the trees west of me and then I threw a couple of very light grunts at him and 5 min later here he comes into the opening where I was sitting in and the wind swirled on me a little and he bounded off back into the trees again , sure was a heartbreak .

Nov 27 we worked a half day due to it raining so I took the decoy out to my tree stand thinking I would use it in the morning on Thanksgiving Day . The next day was Thanksgiving I woke up mad for dressed but I got going too late so had to back out . In the eve on Nov 28 I went back and had a real nice 3 yr old come by that I passed up .

My brother got permission out east of us in the Flint hills of ks a hr and half , so opening day for rile was Dec 4 so me and him went out there and we doubled up on does that day .

The next Saturday was Dec 7 so my dad , brother and myself went back out there , we parked by a pond that was just off the rd , I walked about another mile into the piece it has 1 big draw on it with a bunch more smaller draws coming off of it . I got within 40 yds of where I wanted to setup at and spotted a doe beneath shortly there after she saw me and took off with a buck following so I ranged em at 260 yds threw down my pack put my rifle across it and pulled the trigger he went another another 50 yds and piled up . This was at 720 am , at 750 am my brother shot a buck south of me . At 805 my dad shot a buck also . So it was a very good to spend some time with my brother who hasn't hunted for 13 yrs now .

Fun fact about my family we got 12 deer in all this hunting season , 2 of me where road kills , salvage tags was issued for em .
