Not so long ago the athletes used to go to class, used to live in common dorms, etc.

I don’t know your sources, but it hasn’t been that way at some schools for at least 50 years.

And that is bad in my opinion. But 30 years ago I taught students at a Power 5 top 10 school and they lived in normal dorms and showed up for my classes - they did represent the university and that is the way it should be or we should shut it down and turn our attention to pro leagues.

40 years ago when I was in College, athletes would go to class. Classes like rocks for jocks (geology 101) and clapping for credits(music appreciation).

I guess the 2 football players that lived on my floor freshman year that I walked to bio lab with, and the hockey players we drank beers with after night lectures, and the starting PG in my macro economics class must have all been figments of my imagination....

Are we supposed to pretend like most athletes used to focus primarily on academics? If that was true, the Ivy League schools would have dominated sports.

I hope you are either 24 and haven't grown up or are 78 and decided to be a grumpy "get off my lawn" guy. Because if you are 35 and this difficult to have a conversation with, folks should definitely steer clear.

You think the Washington players made it to Friday morning classes after they played a Thursday night game on the other coast?
Seems like a decent reason to not be in class.
