2024 College Football šŸˆ Season starts tomorrowā€¦. Yee Yee

Big10 had 4 teams in due to scheduling. Texas was in due to scheduling, too. Only one of the Big10 teams played more than one good Big10 team, and that was Ohio St. Texas only played Georgia. ND only got in because of their scheduling was so weak. The rankings were always a joke.

ND beat Georgia because Georgia didn't have their QB and Kirby Smart chose to make coaching mistakes. Texas might have still lost but the play call at the 1 was about as bad as it gets. That game went from 21-14 with Texas at the 1 to 28-14.

We can pretend that more SEC schools shouldn't have been in because they lost to 6 win teams, but Ohio State lost to 6-5 Michigan at home. If we say only 1 win teams should have been in, Ohio State wouldn't have been in, and they are going to win it all.

Bottom line, we just happen to have a perfect storm. It's not reflective of any conference strength or weakness.
Theyā€™re going to have to make the championship trophy the size of the Empire State Building to fit in all the footnotes youā€™ve got for this season.

Naw, Ohio State wins it. Iā€™m just saying either ignore what happened, or donā€™t mention only part of it.

Iā€™m sure 100 years from now the encyclopedia will read ā€œ2024 National Champions: Ohio State*ā€

*(But only because Alabamaā€™s QB had bad nachos before an important game)

Post 1059 nailed it. What ifs donā€™t win games. And sports, like a lot of things in life, donā€™t put footnotes in the loss column.

Who beat Bama
And the Michigan vs OSU game could be an 0-11 team vs an 11-0 team and still wont know who is gonna win for sure. Using that game in your examples is silly.
Of course, you are working in reverse. People say SEC teams are bad because they lost to 6-x teams. What happened in bowl games is a whole different story.

Conference championships are a thing of the past IMO. Itā€™s more about strength of schedule and managing injuries to make a run at the end. With the transfer portal and NIL money, we will see non power conference teams start to be more competitive and make runs in the playoff. Think of how much and the rate college football has changed in just the last 3 years.

I don't think Bama is bad. I'm saying Michigan isn't bad. Also despite the 2 losses for OSU and idc if they were losses to st. Mary's school for the blind and Chief Dull Knife College of Montana they are the most talented team in the country and it's not even close. Altho that doesn't always matter on game day, but make no mistake the best team in the country is playing on the 20th.

Reading through the last few pages, I think too many people have gotten torn up about the ā€œSECā€ stuff. If you look at the last two decades itā€™s not SEC, itā€™s been Nick Saban at Alabama and that seemed to raise opinions of the conference as a whole. Of course there was going to be a course correction once he stepped down. Kirby is the only other coach to show sustained success during that time.

I do think itā€™s pretty ignorant to say the SEC has been cheating and now itā€™s even. If there was anything like that happening every school that invests in their football program was involved (MI, OH, PSU, Clemson, etcā€¦)

We can pretend it was only Bama, but it was Georgia, LSU, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, and Alabama. And if you count Texas and Oklahoma, those too. There isnā€™t a comparison.

Again, I agree that Ohio St is the best this year. Thatā€™s a team thing not a conference thing.

You are far too kind to Tenn.

Well, Iā€™m a Tennessee homer. Seriously though, they were the first winner in the BCS era.

Iā€™m just happy to be back in the top 10. This year will be interesting, finally. Two lost decades were painful.

Seems like a weird fight to pick for The Grizz. Step one - be a big time winner. Step two - talk smack. Looks like the Grizz skipped a step.
