2024 College Football šŸˆ Season starts tomorrowā€¦. Yee Yee

Dang, @jimh406 - even old SEC Finebaum was on television reluctantly admitting that ā€œThe Big Ten, at the moment, owns college football.
Own is a pretty strong word and Finebaum is only quoted by Big10 people when he says what they want to hear.

Big10 owned the CFP committee and Big10 did a great job scheduling to get 4 teams in. What I saw was one Big10 team winning it all. Sure, the rest of the Big10 is trying to ride the coattails. But, don't get it twisted. There is only one Big10 team that dominated CFP that's not a conference, and just a reminder, they weren't even considered one of the top Big10 teams. What would have happened had the SEC had 4 teams in which would have included Ole Miss potentially? We don't know.

As someone noted, how many more times did Georgia have to beat Texas to be rated higher than them. Scheduling is a big issue for next year as well. You can say win-loss is all that matters, but you have to forget about Ohio State.

Fwiw, many of the teams all over college football will have different QBs next year. It will take a bit of time to stabilize. At the moment, Ohio State is the reigning champ, but we'll see what happens next year ... next year.

When was this? After their loss to Michigan, they were still #7 in the AP rankings, and the third highest Big10 team ranked.

Would have been cool to see Ole Miss and Miami in there ahead of a couple other schools.

They were ranked 4th in the Big10 after that loss behind, Indiana, Penn State, and Oregon. That's the same position as Ole Miss in the SEC. Btw, I've noted that the rankings were suspect. Ohio State was ranked below Penn State even after beating Penn State at Penn State and ranked below Indiana even though they beat Indiana. It was strictly a W-L ranking.

Ohio State was #7 and Tennessee was #6 after that week. Magically, the CFP reversed the order even though neither team played the next week. That gave Ohio State a home game instead of Tennessee. Obviously, that would have been different.

Who would have won it all? We don't know.

They weren't "ranked" 4th. That is where they were in standings. They were ranked above Indiana based on beating Penn State and losing to Oregon by 1 on the road. Oh, and they only beat Indiana by 23. Like you have said:
Scheduling is a big issue for next year as well
and it will continue to be.

SEC Homer here
Strength of Schedule

1Georgia (11-3)17.6191
2Ohio St (14-2)17.42569
3Texas (13-3)14.93443
4Notre Dame (14-2)14.433221
5Alabama (9-4)13.22392
6Florida (8-5)13.23284
7Tennessee (10-3)12.946211
8Penn St (13-3)12.563216
9LSU (9-4)12.53337
10Oregon (13-1)12.0471

There was a considerable drop after Ohio State and Georgia.
I also don't believe any one was going to beat Ohio State, I think losing to Michigan was the best thing that happened to them. they got very angry after that

If the rankings are held up by the now proven fact that a bunch of those schedules were based on over rated rankings internal to the conference?

Pretty clear the top 2 teams in the b10 are held and shoulders above anyone in the SEC this year. If the rankings reflected that reality, amongst others (poor bowl performance), the SOS probably doesnt look so good.

Did you bother to watch Ohio St vs Tennessee and Ohio St vs Oregon? The Tennessee game was a home game for Ohio St. But then, maybe you didnā€™t watch the Ohio St vs Texas game either.

How is that pretty clear? Feel free to pretend though.

Had the seedings been a bit different, we might have seen who was a lot better, but that didnā€™t happen. We are left with opinions.

I am not disagreeing with you about the two top teams being the best teams this year. This will ebb and flow like it always has.

NIL put a kink (not the good kind either) in this love affair...it was a cozy relationship

Cause they won. You live in a land of what ifs....

BIG10 is way better than the SEC this year.

Ohio State against the world!

Ohio State Penn State championship. Ohio State wins by double digits.
Other than Penn State not holding their end of the bargain up, this post aged well

Great day to be a Buckeye fan!!

Can't wait until they change the playoff format again to see OSU win it all again!
