Gastro Gnome - Eat Better Wherever

2022 spring turkey

3rd for the season
This guy gobbled over 100 times. Finally came out about 200 yards down the field. Then on his way didn't like something, putted and walked back in. I ran out stood my decoys back up cause 3 Jake's gave them a beat down. I yelped a few times out in the field. Got back in The pop-up looked out the window and he's 40 yards.
The 3 Jake's came in, I knew I had to get them to move on if I was to get the big guy to come in. I hit the inside of the pop-up a couple times and they moved off quietly.

My 2nd tag in IL starts tomorrow. It is gonna be on a piece of private land, about 160 acres, 90 miles west of Chicago that I have access on through the Illinois Recreational Access Program which allows public access to private property. This is similar to the Walk in hunting areas that alot of States have but this is not walk in. You have to apply in a lottery to get the access. My understanding is I will be the only hunter on that piece for the specific 6 day turkey season. I am gonna give it a go tomorrow for about 2 hours before high tailing it back to the city for work. I have high hopes.

I got lucky this morning and bagged this Tom before 7:30am and was back in the city and in the office by 9:30am. Hell of a morning. Things got a little western at the end but I was able to bring him to hand. Finally. Sorry for the poor picture. The downside of hunting solo.602D1487-834A-4E32-BA3A-C9F5550523BB.jpeg

Finished off my season in Montana with this jake this morning. He came up the ridge with another jake, but he came to my right side rather than my left like I was hoping. I shouldered the gun left handed and put the red dot on his head and pulled the trigger. He dropped right away. This is my first bird with my .410 and I’m very happy with how my Vortex Sparc Solar red dot worked. Now it’s time to go glass up a bear!

NWTF on the stock. Nice touch! 👌🏽

I killed my first turkey today and am curious about how mature it is. It has about a 9 inch beard and 1 1/4'' spurs; is that a good bird or pretty average?
Good bird. Be proud. I’ve shot 6 and have 0 to show. Great job!

Nice! I love the turkey gun/Chicago street sweeper.

Finally was able to get out for the first time today. I have a 3rd season and 4th season tag here in Iowa. The wind was ridiculous, as well as the thunderstorm this afternoon. Was able to spot several Toms this afternoon and put them to bed tonight on a local farm here that I have permission to hunt. I'm thinking tomorrow is going to net a dead turkey. Happy to report no ticks yet. I'm sure it's coming though.

Kentucky was good to us. I shot two birds and my buddy got one. 1775 miles roundtrip and 17.4 MPG with his new Ford Raptor. First time I have used TSS... simply crushed both birds. Very happy with my "rebuilt" Remington 870 ! Nice break for us regarding the weather. People have mowed their lawns TWICE down there !! Met lots of new friends !
