2022 shed thread

Pretty much done for the year, turkey season starts Wednesday. Put on half as many miles this year, as compared to years past. For every day i hiked i had to take at least two days to rest my back.
All but one were found on our farm or land that boarders it. Pretty good year, by my neck of the woods standards. 20220418_193255.jpg

There's one in front and behind, making two in the picture, right?
I think what your looking at in the back is some piled brush.

I glassed the same spot today for a bit and the elk shed is now gone

Not a shed, this one broke off. I found a mostly complete broken one last year too. This one had some velvet left on when it broke. You can still see remains of the skin on one tine.

I think you have a shed form a stag or cactus buck. Contrary to popular thought bucks with messed up testosterone do shed there antlers and often regrow another set. Sheds from these buck do not have the normal button on the base. Often the base is hollow like the one you found. Yours is a very extreme example and it looks like and animal could have chewed on it a bit. It is also common for sheds from these bucks to has remnants of velvet too.
Nice looking antler.

I went out on another backpack shed hunting trip. This time only a one-nighter. First day was a bust, I wasn't finding much of anything. Then today I found a set of brown moose paddles, my first of such. Also, I found an old wolf skull. Spots like this make me wish I had idaho tags come fall.
