Yup. Never ever to be cooked through, especially the breast. Medium rare us the go to. For the thighs, kegs, etc, you've got to slow cook for best results and with other stuff. As for skin and fat I like to render separate for duck fatIf your getting liver taste your probably over cooking. I don't care for rare meat typically, but those widgeon and mallard should be good with no liver taste. Check out hank Shaws duck cooking recipes and tips on his website
@marshman such awesome pics. Where is this from?Lots of things keeping me out of the floodwaters this year, but managed a quick morning outing. yesterday.View attachment 262467View attachment 262468

Just a pair of goldeneye. We'll see if my culinary skills have improved enough since the last time I shot one.
I'm not sure how to take that...Neffa you are a poster child for the window sticker thread!
No harm meant, you got er loaded up. I've never killed a golden eye. Pretty abundant there?I'm not sure how to take that...
The plan is to grow up once these are gone, as in, stop putting more on but instead they'll go on the beer fridge. No harm meant, you got er loaded up. I've never killed a golden eye. Pretty abundant there?

Maybe 1 of them. She sure taught a bunch of them to avoid decoys though. I played backup so we could bring something home. She shoot those with a .410?
1 is still impressive.Maybe 1 of them. She sure taught a bunch of them to avoid decoys though. I played backup so we could bring something home.
Trumpeter?Anyone know what this swan is? It showed up in our family farm pond in northern Oklahoma. It's the first one we've ever seen. Would love some waterfo ID folks to chime in
...and now depression sets in!
I like the thought, double duty!Nick, Sled hooked atop the cart. Got to walk quite away out the dike/levy from the refuge parking lot, roll everything out there. Then take the sled off and float the gear (in waders) to my final setup spot.
Hmmmm, a buggy behind Ellie… would likely be a rodeo
Nice cinnamon teal. I have never shot one, they are long gone by the time our season starts.I've handled countless cinnamon teal and this one is without a doubt the largest and darkest that I have ever seen.

Referring to your first picture, he looks dead to me, he won’t hurt you!
Bake goldeneye for 30 minutes wrapped in a bike tube. Then throw out the duck and eat the tube. One of my least favorite fowl for eating. Open to suggestions for making them more palatable. They are fun to shoot.Last hunt of the season for us. Grumpy wasn't thrilled
