2021/2022 Trapping Thread

We set marten traps yesterday and I didn’t see a single track all day. I had very little confidence we’d catch any today. It turns out I was completely wrong. What a cool experience and awesome animals. I can’t believe I’ve lived all these years in Minnesota and never took advantage of this opportunity.

Edit - Added pictures of the marten put up on the boards.

Just curious how do you prepare a coon for Christmas? I’ve not skinned a ton of them but every one has been like a greasy little bear. Do you take a lot of the fat off or leave it on?
WildWill pretty much summed it up.

Some people cook it just like a roast. Potatoes, celery, sweet potatoes, carrots, etc.

I am not a fan myself. Much rather have beaver.

It turns out I had to pull all my sets so that we didn’t get more than our limit. What a cool experience and awesome animals. Awesome work!

I'd love to take a week off of work one of these years and run an hour or two north to run a martin line for a week!

What is your percentage of males to females typically? All 5 of our marten were males, which I felt pretty good about.

I just did a quick check on 2 bottom edge 110s I had set on a local creek and picked up a nice mink.

We rarely catch more than 10percent females, and I have no idea why. We set our boxes on the ground, which most people warn will get more females.

You know that feeling when you find the perfect home for a 330? I think god wants me to catch this otter. That run at the bottom is just deep enough and wide enough for a 330 and not frozen! What more does a guy need? He had been through just before I got there.

Not like this pain in the neck that won’t stay in the water and runs the bank.

My nephew had a beaver problem in the small tank in front of his house, and being a dry land raised boy, didn't know how to deal with it. The beavers cut all of his cattails (no loss) and had started to work on the willows and dig in the tank dam.
I ordered him a #330 Conibear and a trap setter for it, and he was ecstatic when he caught his first beaver. He took three more out of a tank that covered less than two acres in the next three weeks. Digging beavers are a real problem.
