With having tagged out on my Blacktail buck October 5 , which is the earliest I’ve been able to harvest one , all I had left to do was be a guide for my girlfriend, mission accomplished !!! Around 3:30 today an hour in to a nasty rainstorm I was able to find some deer out in the open on the edge of a big timber stand, my girlfriend made a 95 yd shot and the buck tipped over where it stood did 2 kicks and that was that , as we celebrated another buck I didn’t see about the same size as this one left for cover and the doe followed a few minutes later, knowing the rut had started earlier this week here and with 7 days left for Oregon’s Blacktail season your chances increase and today was our day , a single hot doe dragged 2 nice Blacktails out in the open and my girlfriend got hers , she throat punched it blew the windpipe in half it was a nasty wound upon skinning , but could not be more proud of her , 3 years ago she said I want to hunt and I began to teach her what I knew and how I went about it , depending on time of season and situation she will go all day and never complain in the truck and headed out an hr before sunrise hunt 11 hours and home an hour after sunset and repeat... this is her 3rd Blacktail and I enjoy seeing her hard work and sacrifice pay off. Like everyone on this forum knows if you want to be a successful hunter you have to give a part of your life to it and sacrifice other things to accomplish your goals, and she is doing just that ......here’s a few pics of the day , the first one is the ridge she shot from that over looked the clearcut the Blacktails where in on the edge of the big timber stand , now we still have a week off of work to relax , recharge the battery and start to think about my Roosevelt Elk hunt Nov 10-13th ...... P.S. she helped drag that buck today almost 50 yards uphill through the nastiest crapping hole I’ve had to get a critter out of yet , the picture at the top dosnt do it justice of how nasty it was , thankful I have a friend who is a logger and has a chainsaw wench and he came out to help and hauled that deer up the last 50 yds of a statight up hill . That saved at least an hour of time and the last of the dragging would have been in the dark with head lamps ... UGH
