Kansas Spring turkey season was a fun filled 5 days of hunting with two other buddies. We ended up shooting 5 good birds in 5 days of hunting with archery gear. We shot two doubles and had a couple missed opportunies.

Here is the first of 3 pics. The two friends I had with had never shot a turkey with a bow and one guy had never shot a turkey at all. so we had many firsts and a great overall hunt.

1 of 3 Kansas spring 2009

I will lead off with the turkeys I killed. The first one was a picture perfect turkey experience with him coming in from about 200 yard in to full strut at 20 yards. The second turkey was a little bit more spooky and didn't like something at 42 yards and was ready to take off when I shot him.

Great Pics All....

Before I post 2 of 3 spring turkey pics I want to say some great pics on this post thus far.

These birds were taken the opening afternoon. We got in on a large group of birds (around 30 Jakes and mature birds) in the morning but something wasn't right and they took a different route inthe morning and I could call them in to save my life. They were on some property that I couldn't hunt so all we could do was watch and try.

That afternoon I sent my buddy in to set up with anticipation of the route they would take back to the roost that night. I had been watching these birds on and off for a couple weeks prior so I had a pretty good idea where they would travel.

After I dropped him off I went to a differnt area to try and put some birds to bed for the morning. I was able to put a handful of birds to bed that night and I had a 30 min drive back to pic him up so it was well after dark when I arrived.

My buddy still wasn't at the road so it made me wonder but I never got a call or text letting me know he got anything. As I waited I got a text that was soemthing like "come help" This made me wonder why he could carry the blind and decoys out himself. As I got closer to him I could see two heads swinging in the moon light.

Not only was this his first turkey but he had shot them with a bow and double on top of that.

I'll start with the most recent hunt which was the boys' first coon hunt. Having wanted to do this since I was in grade school it was as big of a hoot for me as it was for them and we are all ready to have at it as soon as possible.

My sons biggest buck. Proud of him for waiting so long for an opportune shot (10 minutes) when the buck was only 30 years the whole time looking for a buck that was making the grunt. The buck was behind a bunch of trash (saplings) and my son waited until the deer was in a small clearing before touching the trigger.

My daughters first deer. Hunted all day and ended up shooting two deer that day.

So proud of both of them. They have killed 5 deer combined so far this year. It`s been a great year!

OK first off that wasn't my fault. I just buy books off the bestsellers shelf. Noharleyyet wasn't in AK to give me advice on a good author. But btw it was a pretty good book. Not sure how it ended because I didn't finish it.....

At least I have my head UP when stalking a caribou. Icb12 can't see a monster double shoveled bull 50 yards in front of us. I'm being generous on the 50 yards ;)

Icb12 glassing bears. We saw A LOT of black bears. If I remember right we saw 12 on that hillside alone.....

:D:D:D very generous. 50 feet is probably more truthful.

That was possibly the fastest most effective stalk in history.

It's like that scene from topgun.
Wolfman: "thirty seconds, we went like this, he went like that. I said to Hollywood, where'd he go??, Hollywood says, Whered whooo go?

Anyway that bull was too close to camp. You know that.

Back on topic.
