I finally get to go out west and hunt for elk. We are going to Colorado for 2nd rifle season to a unit that has OTC bull tags. I want to get a mulley tag also. How do I go about doing that? I'd like to hunt both this year if possible.

Thanks,

On the CPW page above^^^ you can look up the statistics by species and find out how many(if any) points were needed to draw a deer tag last year. It will be broken down by gender and season.

Figure out a unit that you can draw a mule deer tag with 0 points that also offers OTC elk tags. I use the Gohunt insider service, which makes it pretty simple. You can figure this out through the CPW website, it will just take some digging.

Mulleys might be out of the question on this first trip because of the whole NR no points thing. My wife has family down near Gunnison and they are ranchers with a ton of land. They said that if they get damage permits for mulley or antelope that I could come down there and hunt.

Maybe they get landowner vouchers? Or friends or neighbor's might get land owner vouchers. Its worth asking them

Mule deer damage permits in the Gunnison basin... definitely not something I would count on...

Landowner vouchers or depredations tags... seems crazy given the die offs they would issue depredations tags. I mean they cut the mule deer quota in tons of those units, some almost in half... and were putting out feed. I can't imagine the CPAW turning around and culling the few deer that made it...

We usually get 3 vouchers for 52 but last year we only got 1...

They have a ton of privately owned property and they have a lot in land trusts from Colorado. I'd rather hunt antelope, just something that I have always wanted to do.

Toprut.com has an easy and free guide to each area in Colorado and each western state. Highly recommended!
