1st Antelope Hunt - Check me

I've been hunting antelope since the early '70s and like most people, I take way more than I really need.

As I see it, you only need 5 things to hunt antelope: Most western states require hunter orange, a hat + 400" outer garment in Colorado, Hat in Wyoming, and 400" outer garment in Montana. Your license. Your rifle and cartridges, and a knife to gut him.

Beer, well broken-in boots, and binocs are a close 6 through 8, and the list continues from there with things are nice to have, but not completely necessary.

I second practicing in the wind. Last time I went was 2021. Shot my pronghorn when it was dead still. My son ranged a huge buck at 343 yards and tried to hold on him in a 30-40 mile crosswind. Finally had to give up. He finally got his at 212 yards in a 20 mile crosswind. I cant 'remember a pronghorn I had to shoot in the wind. I guess I've been lucky.

As was said previously, get a phone skope or similar adaptor and PRACTICE using it for photo AND video.

Odds are decent those great photos will be a big and valued part of the “trophy” from the hunt you look at again and again. At least it is for me most hunts. Well worth taking time to enjoy what you see versus a quick “pass” and moving on.
