I have a New England Firearms Turkey Special in 10 gauge single shot and have had a tough time finding 10 gauge ammo.Got my local shop to order me some ,now waiting.

Anyone shoot a 10 gauge

Friend of mine just got one, and its deadly on a deer. This will be his first spring with it, wish I could help with the ammo but he reloads his own.

ahhh, the memories :) I still have a singleshot 10 that I bought in the late 80's. I only used it for geese, and we named it "the big boom" After a flock of geese came in, and the barrage of gunfire was done, the boom would often claim one more goose on their exit. Dang that was fun, thanks for triggering those old brain cells! Here's a pic of her, H&R model 176, with my "custom" paint job, one tank of a gun!

I blasted my first turkey with a 10 guage at 70 yards, somewhat downhill. That sucker was heavy though, I forget the name but think it was an ithica. 20+ years ago.

Only one question. Why? With the modern .12 gauge and the various 3' and 3 1/2" loads, not too mention even the 3" 20 gauge guns, I can't imagine subjecting oneself to the recoil and the weight of a .10 gauge.

+1. I've shot more turkeys with a 20 gauge than 12, never even considered a 10. I guess if you have the money and want to be able to shoot a bit further. Good excuse to buy another gun as well.

As far as the ammo. Where are you located? There are 38 types of just 10 gauge #2 shot on cheaper than dirt. All in stock. Plenty in stock at Cabelas as well.

Agree. Never have used more than a 12 bore with 2 3/4" shells. The type of woodland I hunt usually allows for calling them in close unless hunting the edge of a field which might require a longer shot, so the 10 bore isn't even a consideration, though I'm sure there are situations in other states where it would be a big advantage.

Picked up a box of 10 gauge at Cabela.s the other day.Only place I could locate any.

+2 I us a 12/ 3in. Mag #6 and killed piles of birds.......

I have taken more birds with my 12 gauge but decided this year to go with the single 10 gauge. When hunting pressured birds,it gives me a little more advantage. The birds around me get a lot of hunting pressure and get call shy quick.

Go big or go home philosophy. I like it! Too much gun for turkeys probably, but no different shooting them with high power rifles.

Sweet gun Muskeez!

High powered rifles for turkey......or any rifle for that matter, will cost a man his hunting license on top of a minimum $1000.00 fine and loss of the gun in SC.
