Bear Skull Cleaning - Keeping the teeth as is

Depends on the skull. I’ve used ammonia and water mixed. Dawn dish soap and water works fine too. Predators are just greasy. The degreasing can take along time to get it all out. I know some people will whiten before all the grease is out, but to my experience it just leaves the customer with a...

Bear Skull Cleaning - Keeping the teeth as is

First week in water and bromelian tablets at roughly 95 degrees until flesh is fully removed. Partial water changes every couple days. Hopefully teeth are loose enough to pull. After flesh is gone and teeth pulled it’s time to degrease.

    Elk rib roll

To be honest I don’t remember. I wanna say it was like 2.5 hours at 275. Doing it again I would have gone longer and a little slower but still very good

Bear Skull Cleaning - Keeping the teeth as is

I have always macerated my skulls. Which has led to no cracking in my canines on bears and lions. After a while macerating the teeth except molars seem to fall out or get very loose which makes pulling effortless. The molars come out too and with a little motivation they go make in fine also...

    Best fat for deer sausage

Personally, I prefer beef. I put it in everything I make, like burger and sausage. But pork does make a good product as well.

    Elk rib roll

I did a small batch of deer ribs off a whitetail this year on my traeger. It was pretty darn good. Super simple, remove the membrane like you would on pork ribs. Season em up and let em go.

Boot lifespan? Danner Pronghorns not holding up

I used to wear pronghorns and they definitely are not what they used to be. My last pair(2 years ago) fell apart about 2 weeks into archery elk. I decided to cough up the coin and buy a pair of kenetrek mtn extremes with 400gr insulation and have never looked back.

    Best Bear Taxidermist in MT

I had an unfortunate experience with a local taxidermist in NW Montana where I shot my first bear in the fall of 2022. The bear also happened to be just under 400lbs and had a 19 9/16” skull. My taxidermist estimated the rug to take 18months and long story short after two years and dodged for...

Boom sticks are cool...but show off your bow!

Grew up shooting a pse rally. At 16 saved up money from my first real job and bought this Hoyt Pro Defiant 34. I see zero reason to “upgrade” anytime soon.

    buying a used bow

I’ve bought multiple used hoyts on eBay and have had nothing but great experiences. I bought a used pro defiant 34 in 2018 for a great deal. Bought a used defiant last year for the wife for a screaming deal and have helped numerous buddies get great bows that work with any budget. eBay also has...

How long leave deer skull in ground

Any tips for keeping the color in the antler? I macerated my most recent whitetail and pronghorn and my whitetail lost all the color in his horn?
