I just adjust my binoculars to be crisp without my glasses on and bump my glasses up onto my forehead to look. Not ideal, but it seems to work for the most part. I'll be interested to hear if anyone drops any comments about an alternative.
Two things come to mind: Redhead brand from Cabelas can get the job done for a lower price point, my Brother in Law has it and has had pretty good luck with it for the money. I have slowly upgraded my stuff to higher end so I can't give you any live preference there. The other thing I would...
I wasn't a big fan of the TTSX 168s for group sizes, even though my heart was set on them. I eventually gave up and tried the 155 ELD-M. They shoot really well out of my wife's sig cross. Lots of choices out there, best of luck finding your golden ticket!
I was going to go the 4-32 based on similar things i read online, but once I had them next to each other and considered them for hunting it was a pretty easy choice. I was concerned that a slightly smaller eyebox on the 2.5 would make it harder to get lined up in a hunting situation but it has...
I use the Nx8 2.5-20 on my hunting rifle. I absolutely love it. It is definitely heavy, but it Just. Flat. Works. I had the thought of using my scope to see farther but IMO it really doesn't work that well, on top of being unsafe. I went with slightly higher magnification binoculars and have a...
Just my .02 and worth what you paid for it... If you go, you will likely never be able to come back. I'd see if you cant leverage your contacts in Montana to find a more affordable area to live in state and keep good work. I have had a brother and a good friend move away and I really don't see...
Congrats on the deer! Reminds me a lot of getting started in my teens, just a few rounds of ammo to my name and a desperation to get outdoors. In a perfect world we would have plenty of ammo and time to perfect our shooting and have all the mentorship be an excellent woodsman but reality is...
I had a Stevens in .270 in my teenage years. It kicked harder than anything I have shot since (I shoot a 300 win mag now). I thought i was just gun shy but I traded it to my buddy and he went out, shot it and came back with a purple shoulder. He now shoots something else as well. I'm guessing...
My comment was mostly in jest, I am sure they have good reason for their investigation. Thanks for the additional commentary, I find these cases really interesting. It's pretty impressive when they are able to take down a poacher considering what they are up against!
I wish there were more details. Sounds like there wasn't a tag on the animal if they dont know the identity. Do they use e-tags? Hopefully he didn't leave to get help with packing out and find his elk was gone when he returned! 😅 I'll be interested if there are any updates to this one.
This is the reply I was hoping to see here. Trim it well and cook it well rather than excessive effort to hide it with over the top seasonings. I have Hank's buck buck moose cookbook and those recipes are really great. My other .02 for at least roasts is to get a quality dutch oven instead of a...
You bet. I started using the tool on the Google homepage where you can upload photos and it will find like images as a help with identifying plants, but it's proven to be really helpful for obscure items like that. Maybe you will get lucky and find a sight on Ebay or at a swap meet!
+1 on good socks. Thin socks give me trouble. I started using the heavier darn tough and it's made a lot of difference. Also, it's important to stop and check on your feet before the blisters start. Stop after your morning hiking and check for hot spots. Apply a little tape if you need then...
I personally consider them more of a refreshment than a performance booster, but that doesn't take away from the positive mental effect I get from a cold swig of something. I try to eat some fruit to help with my nutrition needs (bananas have been helpful with cramps for me). I do really like...
The best way to gain experience is by doing. Go for it, and enjoy the process. I have realized that being a beginner at anything some of the most fun, and can make for some of the best memories. I do strongly recommend obtaining an inreach or something of the sort, having seen and personally...
