If they are LOPs, she's hunting illegally. She's never hunted private lands a day in her life. I get how she's always successful hunting though; her husband is a logger and keeps track of the heards all year, but all on public lands.
I appreciate your insights!
I mean, yeah, I'm a little...
That's a very good point! I actually did mine through the ODFW app this year, and have all that documentation, so I was able to verify my application repeatedly. Which I did, as I kept thinking I'd made some kind of error, being new to the app (and website as well). Having that I fo at the tip...
That's a long wait. I hope I can be that patient, if it comes to it! I'm probably one of the most unlucky people in the state, so wouldn't surprise me if I'm waiting a few years. But you're absolutely right, no reason to not put in. That's the best way to miss out on an opportunity!
See, that's what I thought, but she posts her tags and pictures of her success (and her daughters success) in insta every season. Again, it's only been the last 5 years (that I'm aware of). It just doesn't feel right to me, but 🤷🏼♀️
I'm kind of ashamed of myself; my dad was a logger (now retired) for about 35 years in this area, so I've been all over the Alsea unit. Not knowing about Thompson is like a swift kick in the a$$. Lmao
Is it near the starker office?
I always get a starker permit, every year. Just gotta choose...
I appreciate this input. What kills me is that it seems like nobody talks about drawing hair tags here, so we don't know where those tags are going, thus making it feel like they're just not being given out. I mean, people can't be ashamed of hair tags, right? Meat is meat, isn't it?...
Ive...
Specifically, this is the Alsea unit (18).. I know there are a very limited amount of tags that go out, also. I won't even get started on the politics of hair tags, just wondering how I can get mine without waiting for 9+ years. Haha
I can't agree enough with this statement. Get her involved in the whole process, not just shooting the gun. Comfort from the beginning is better than getting comfortable cus you have no other options. Especially if it'll be her primary hunting firearm.
Definitely some great advice. We're looking into moving, as well, as the situation here is pretty crappy (politics, hunter overpopulation in the unit, cost of living, etc) but this habitat has given me a damn good foundation. Absolutely love the starker selection over here, especially towards...
I know I'm probably too late for this to make a difference, but... From a woman's perspective, since you're looking for something your daughter can use..
My dad bought me a Savage 243 when I passed my hunters safety course at 12 years old, and I've been hunting with it religiously ever since...
I held my breath, trying not to shake from excitement.. what an opportunity!
The monster stopped dead in his tracks, eyes and ears searching, aware of something... Was it my presence he detected?
He stood as still as I imagined I was, waiting for... Was that a sound?... The sharp, short snap...
Not exactly... That being said, I had someone with his grandchild (I'm assuming) come at me through very thick 0-vision brush while not responding to my loudly saying "hello? Are you human?" Repeatedly. I drew my sidearm thinking I was about to be attacked by some animal (bear? Cougar?) and...
Hope nobody minds me rekindling this thread! Foraging is one of my absolute favorite things to do, especially while fall big-game hunting!
Where I'm from, the Oregon coast, there is SO much offered by nature, aside from the delicious animals. A handful of my favorites would have to be all the...
Apologies, I should have thought to mention. Western Oregon resident general rifle, cow elk and doe tags specifically.
Edit: not including damage control tags, which are antlerless elk only, and on private lands.
Damn! Those were some absolutely beautiful animals, it's such a shame someone had to be so unsportsmanlike and take them unlawfully. Sounds awfully familiar, too. A guy from my home town years ago was charged with multiple counts of poaching, spotlighting, and all related charges due to...
