Bozeman: is it really that bad anymore?

Yep. Why is it that "sin" taxes in Montana seem to do quite well? https://nbcmontana.com/news/local/montana-cashes-in-on-sports-betting

Bozeman: is it really that bad anymore?

The article shows that the flaw in property taxes in that it is a tax on an illiquid asset. Without some other income, it can't be paid. I feel more sorry for the teachers that continue to be underpaid, the police and fire that have unfilled positions (including FWP) due to pay, and the rural...

Bozeman: is it really that bad anymore?

This seems like an ad made by the new guy who wants the Gov job saying "Look what the last guy did to you". It doesn't sound plausible without a rezoning from ag to residential, but details are lacking. Hard to feel terribly sorry for the guy because at 68 he has to work to supplement his...

Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

It would have been a wide ride. Honestly, I never would have been able to stay in. Rule #1, know thyself.

Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

What did you make...$2500? This assumes you didn't close it out when it ran back about $200/sh. If you waited you could have closed with it below $140. And using RSI over the 3mos would have drove a person crazy. Timing is everything

    Montana General Season Structure Proposal

Agree, but the way FWP manages antelope is completely different. As Gerald says, it may just be because everyone is used to it. But then FWP should just say "that is the way the majority of MT R hunters want it";. No need for 3 days of video presentation or even the CAC at all. Maybe they should...

    Montana General Season Structure Proposal

Why do these problems not exist for antelope? The NR v. R debate doesn't seem the same. Why does FWP manage antelope one way (unit tags, pick your weapon, pick your unit) with the R being fine with it, but MD and elk are different? tradition, ie, "we have always done it that way"? Maybe thinking...

    Montana General Season Structure Proposal

I can see this point and agree with them. My only counter would be 1) The NRs didn't create the convoluted draw process by which combo tags get to be reissued at 120% of the value and 2) changes are so hard to get done. If you are willing to put up the fight, don't stop at the easy stuff.

    Montana General Season Structure Proposal

Sure, but that isn't because NR's are better shots. They pay a lot more and they plan and make a commitment to their hunt. At those prices that doe or forkie on BLM next to the road on the last day is a consolation prize. If the NR paid $20 for the tag, they may be more willing to eat it as...

    Montana General Season Structure Proposal

This thread keeps going in circles. Everyone in the state would agree that NRs suck and should be treated like the vermin they are. Just try to get back to the cap of 17,000. Unfortunately the Rs are dependent on the $$$. The math is difficult, if not painful for some Rs. The comments in the CAC...

    Arbitrary Hunting Goals

I think about this a lot. It should probably be its own thread. Do you stop when it stops being enjoyable? When you reach your “goal”? When your body can’t do it anymore? I think about the last one every time I put in for the goat tag. At some point that becomes plain stupid.

Same, to the dot, minus the llamas.

    Montana General Season Structure Proposal

Montana is years behind WY on migration data too. It wasn't until the first positive CWD test that they started putting more collars on deer. When I talked to the bio he literally said "Almost none of the deer migrated to where we thought they would."

    Long Covid?

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. If you go to a walk-in your odds of seeing a non-doctor that calls themself doctor is much higher. Hospitals have learned it is a volume game and they can cut costs by hiring quasi-doctors. The first time you go in for an issue, maybe. If you go back...

    Going to Moab!

Did a "turn and burn" myself last year. Would love to spend more time in the area. Enjoy the trip and give a recap.

    Long Covid?

My advice is always make sure you are seeing an actual MD. You would be surprised.

    Montana General Season Structure Proposal

Should also add that I can anecdotally think of times where harvest would matter. I remember reading/hearing somewhere about an early heavy snow pushing elk out of the Bob and it was a turkey shoot on public land WMA. ever since, they has had trouble getting elk to migrate back to that WMA. I...

    Montana General Season Structure Proposal

This goes back to the main question of if harvest is additive or compensatory. For big game it may be different than for birds. Even for elk it may be different than deer which is different than antelope (see WY winter 22-23 mortality). The short answer to the first question is "you don't care...

    Montana General Season Structure Proposal

I would say he is clearly wrong about the cost given the amount of states that do them, but might be correct on the data. Hunters overemphasize harvest. I have even complained a little that FWP overemphasizes harvest in their model. Using past harvest to adjust for future harvest is backwards...
